Jennie / Sutton Coldfield

Jennie said "I am part of a local volunteer group ( activecitizens-communityvolunteers) in Sutton Coldfield. We have a community allotment and are growing fruit and vegetables for a local food bank, so that local people in need can have fresh food included in their weekly food bags.

We managed to get funding from our local Town Council to enable us to purchase the raised beds - 4 in total. It has made an enormous difference to us, and also means that people with physical limitations in the local area can help volunteer at our allotments with the growing of crops. For some this will give them an outlet, helping to overcome loneliness and mental health issues.

We are growing a range of crops in them including - sweetcorn, lettuce, courgettes, radish, leeks, spring onions, parsnips, beetroot, tomatoes and cucumber. So as you can see the raised beds are being extremely productive."
